Are real estate taxes the same as property taxes?

I often hear the terms "real estate taxes" and "property taxes" used interchangeably, but I'm not sure if they mean exactly the same thing. Are there any differences between the two? Or are they just two names for the same type of tax?

Real estate taxes and property taxes are often used interchangeably, but they typically mean the same thing. Both refer to taxes assessed by local governments on real property—land and buildings. These taxes help fund public services like schools, roads, and emergency services. While the terms may vary by region, in most cases, real estate tax is simply another name for property tax.
