I’m comparing Clover vs Square to find the best POS system for my business. Both seem to offer great tools for payments, inventory, and reporting, but I’m not sure which one gives better overall value. For those who’ve used them — how do Clover vs Square compare in terms of setup, pricing, customer support, and hardware options? Which one would you recommend and why?

Your needs will determine which system is best for you:

Square's free point-of-sale software and reasonably priced hardware make it a better option for startups and small budgets. It is renowned for its straightforward pricing and ease of use.

With better, but more expensive, specialized hardware, Clover is better suited for well-established companies that require customization, sophisticated retail inventory, or full-service restaurant tools.

When comparing Clover and Square for small businesses: Square is ideal for startups with its free basic plan, low hardware cost and easy setup. Clover offers greater customization, merchant account flexibility and lower per-transaction fees for higher volumes—but has higher upfront hardware costs and a steeper learning curve.

For small businesses: Choose Square if you want low startup cost, simplicity, and a free basic POS plan.

Choose Clover if you need greater customization, integrations and potential lower transaction fees, but expect higher hardware costs and possible contracts.

For small businesses, Square is the more straightforward, low-cost choice with no monthly fees and simple setup. Clover, on the other hand, offers deeper customization and flexibility but at higher hardware costs and more complex setup.
