How much should payroll services cost?

I’m trying to figure out what’s reasonable to pay for payroll services. What’s the typical pricing structure (base fee + per-employee, pay-run pricing, software vs full service)? For example, for a small business with 10-20 employees, what range is normal, and what factors drive the cost up?

The cost of payroll services depends on how big the business is, where it is, and what features it offers. In the U.S., basic payroll services usually cost $20 to $50 a month plus $4 to $10 for each employee. Full-service plans cost between $50 and $200 a month, plus $6 to $12 per employee. Costs in India range from ₹300 to ₹2,500 per employee per month.

Payroll service costs are determined by the size, location, and features of the company. The monthly cost of full-service programs ranges from $50 to $200, plus $6 to $12 for each employee. In India, monthly expenses for each employee might range from ₹300 to ₹2,500.

Payroll service costs usually range from ₹300–₹800 per employee per month for basic processing.
For full-service payroll with compliance and tax filing, expect ₹1,000–₹2,500+ per employee per month.
Small businesses may also choose flat-fee packages costing ₹16,000–₹80,000 per month, depending on staff size and service level.
