Everyone is talking about "the digital economy," but I’m a bit lost. What is a digital asset in 2026? Does it just mean Bitcoin and NFTs, or do my domain names and social media accounts count too?

A digital asset is any item stored digitally that has value. This includes cryptocurrencies, digital documents, images, videos, software, domain names, NFTs, and online accounts. They can be owned, transferred, or traded electronically.

A digital asset is anything that exists in a digital format and comes with a right to use. This includes photos, videos, documents, and even cryptocurrencies or NFTs. To be considered an asset, it must have the potential to provide value and be discoverable. In the modern economy, managing these assets is crucial for both individuals and businesses to protect intellectual property and brand value.
