What is a firm in business terms?

I’d like a clear explanation of what is a firm in economics and business.
How is a firm different from a company or organization?
Are sole proprietors also considered firms?

A company is a profit making organization in business that offers professional services or products. It is often synonymous with company, but specifically refers to a business organization such as law or accounting practices that is organized as a partnership, sole proprietorship, or corporation in order to maximize the owner profit.
