Cryptojacking: what is it?

I recently came across the term cryptojacking and want to understand cryptojacking: what is it, how it works, and how hackers use it to secretly mine cryptocurrency. What are the signs of cryptojacking, and how can individuals and businesses protect their devices from it?

Think cryptojacking as theft, someone quietly stealing your phone or computer to get their own crypto, you will see things like unexpected slow speeds, a hot phone, a fan running constantly, and staying safe is largely a matter of updates, excellent antivirus programs, and clicking sparingly.

A cyberattack known as "cryptojacking" occurs when hackers use your device's processing power to mine cryptocurrency without your permission. It frequently spreads via hacked website scripts or malicious links, slowing down, overheating, or crashing your computer.

Cryptojacking is a cyberattack where hackers secretly use someone’s computer, phone, or server to mine cryptocurrency without permission, slowing performance, increasing power usage, and causing potential security and hardware issues.

Cryptojacking is a cyberattack where hackers secretly use someone’s computer or device resources to mine cryptocurrency without the user’s knowledge or consent.

One thing people don’t realize is that cryptojacking doesn’t always steal data, so traditional antivirus might not flag it immediately. The goal isn’t spying it’s stealing computing power quietly.

That’s why it’s sometimes considered “low-risk malware” by attackers, but for victims it can damage hardware long-term due to heat stress.
