I’ll be visiting Nevada soon and was wondering—does the state have sales tax on purchases? If yes, what’s the rate and does it vary by city like Las Vegas or Reno? Also, are groceries or services taxed there?

Yes, Nevada has a state sales tax. The base rate is 6.85%, but local counties can add additional taxes, making the total rate higher in some areas. Sales tax applies to most tangible goods and certain services. Food for home consumption is generally exempt from sales tax in Nevada.

Yes, Nevada has a sales tax. When you buy most goods or services in the state, you’ll pay a percentage in sales tax at checkout. The base sales tax rate in Nevada is 6.85%, but it can be higher in some cities or counties due to added local taxes. So, depending on where you shop, the total rate might be a bit more. Always check your receipt—sales tax is usually added after the item price.
