How to void a check?

I need to void a check for setting up direct deposit. What’s the correct way to void a check without risking it being misused? Should I write anything else besides "VOID"? Please guide me step-by-step.

Voiding a check prevents it from being cashed or deposited. It's often done if you make a mistake while writing it, or if you need to provide your bank account information (like for direct deposit setup) without actually making a payment.

To void a check, write “VOID” across the front in large letters using a permanent ink pen. Ensure it’s clearly visible and doesn’t obscure any critical information. Avoid using it for payments and keep the voided check for your records. Additionally, update your check register accordingly.
