I’m confused about payroll deductions. Is OASDI tax mandatory for everyone, or are there exceptions? I want to understand if all employees are required to pay it and how it’s calculated. Any advice or experiences would be really helpful.

Yes, OASDI (Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance) tax, commonly known as the Social Security tax, is mandatory for most employees and employers in the U.S. It is required by federal law under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA).

Yes, the OASDI (Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance) tax is mandatory for most U.S. workers. It funds Social Security benefits. Both employees and employers must contribute. Only certain groups, like specific government employees or some religious groups, may be exempt. Most workers cannot opt out of this tax.
