I’m confused between semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll. How are they different in terms of number of paychecks, consistency, and impact on employees? Which is better for small businesses in terms of payroll processing and cash flow? Please explain with examples.

Semi-monthly means receiving pay twice a month, usually on set dates like the 1st and 15th, resulting in 24 pay periods per year.
Bi-weekly means getting paid every two weeks, which totals 26 pay periods per year. The pay dates can vary but always occur every two weeks.
