I’ve heard the term marketable securities in finance. What qualifies as a marketable security, and can you give some common examples like stocks or bonds?

Marketable securities are short-term financial instruments that can be quickly bought or sold in public markets with high liquidity and low risk. Examples include treasury bills, commercial paper, government bonds, and listed stocks. Companies hold them to earn returns on excess cash while keeping funds easily accessible.
