I’ve been reading about business growth strategies and came across the term "acquisition. can someone explain me this.
 
The term "acquisition" in business refers to the purchase of a controlling interest in, or the totality of, another business. Gaining market share, expanding operations, gaining access to new technology, or eliminating competitors are the usual goals of this strategy. The purchased company frequently becomes a subsidiary or is fully incorporated into the buyer's business.
 
Acquisition can be interpreted to mean gaining or obtaining something whether it is skills, knowledge or assets. In business it commonly means one firm acquiring another one.
