I’m trying to understand basic accounting entries. What does “DR” stand for, and how is it different from CR? When do we debit an account?

"Just wanted to chime in and clarify - 'DR' stands for Debit in accounting. It's one of the two main columns on a financial statement (the other being Credit). When a transaction increases an asset or expense, you increase the DR column. Simple, but super important to keep in mind when balancing the books"

DR stands for “debit” in accounting entries. It records increases in assets and expenses, and decreases in liabilities, equity, and revenue. In double-entry bookkeeping, every debit must be matched with a credit entry, ensuring the accounting equation stays balanced and all financial transactions are accurately recorded.

DR means debit in accounting. It’s an entry on the left side of a ledger. Debits increase assets and expenses, and decrease liabilities, equity, and revenue—opposite of CR (credit).

“DR” commonly means Doctor, Disaster Recovery in IT, or Directly Responsible in business. In texting, it can also mean drama. Meaning depends on context where it is used.

"DR" may stand for different things, depending on where it is used. In finance and accounting, it means "Debit, " a ledger entry on the left side that increases assets or expenses. In medicine, "Dr. " is short for "Doctor, " a professional designation. In video games or chat rooms, "DR" could be "Damage Reduction" or "Daily Reset. " It might also be "Data Recovery" in technology contexts. Identifying the correct meaning requires considering the context it is used in, so always look at the surrounding text for an accurate understanding.

“DR” can mean different things depending on context: it often stands for Doctor, Daily Routine, Delivery Receipt, Disaster Recovery, or in online communities “Desired Reality.” In texting, gaming, medicine, or business, the meaning changes, so the context usually determines the right definition.
