Are you confused about what HMRC NDDS first payment means? Many taxpayers ask how the New Direct Debit System works, when the first payment is taken, and how it applies to tax or VAT payments.
 
HMRC NDDS first payment means the first tax payment collected by HMRC via the National Direct Debit Scheme, usually for Self Assessment or a payment plan set up with HMRC.
 
It just means your New Direct Debit System instruction has been successfully processed. Usually, they take the first payment 3–5 working days after you get the "Advance Notice" email.
 
HMRC NDDS first payment means your first tax payment taken under the Non-Direct Debit Scheme (NDDS), usually for Self Assessment tax.

It’s the initial amount you owe to HMRC, paid manually (not by automatic Direct Debit), often covering your first tax bill or payment on account.
