What does pending mean when checking a transaction or request?

I often see the status pending when looking at payments or online requests. Can someone explain what does pending mean exactly? Does it mean the process has started but is waiting for approval or confirmation?

When a transaction or request shows as pending, it means it has been initiated but hasn’t been fully processed or confirmed yet. The system or bank is still verifying or completing the action, so the final status or amount may update once the process is finished.

Pending The transaction or request has been received, but has not been accomplished yet. It is being awaited to be processed, approved or confirmed by the system, bank, or service. At this step the ultimate outcome is not determined. After processing is finished the status normally becomes completed, approved or failed. It does not mean anything other than in progress or wait.
