What is a ledger balance?

I keep seeing two different totals on my bank statement. Specifically, what is a ledger balance and why is it different from my spending power?

The ledger balance is just your "official" balance at the end of the last business day. It hasn't caught up to your recent coffee runs or gas station stops yet.

A ledger balance is the total amount of money in a bank account at the end of a business day, including all processed transactions. It does not include pending transactions or holds. It shows the official recorded balance in the bank’s accounting system.

Ledger balance represents the official account balance recorded by the bank after all completed transactions have been posted and finalized.
