What is a prenup?

I’ve come across the term prenup in conversations about marriage. What is a prenup, and why do couples choose to have one? Is it only for wealthy individuals?

A prenuptial agreement is a legal contract created before marriage. It outlines how assets, debts, and future earnings are divided in the event of divorce or death. While often associated with the wealthy, many couples use them to protect business interests, inheritances, or clarify financial responsibilities before tying the knot.
