I keep seeing the term Tax ID when filling out forms and setting up financial accounts, but I'm not totally sure what it actually means. From what I understand, a Tax Identification Number is used by the government to track taxes for individuals and businesses, but I’m not sure if it's the same as a Social Security Number, EIN, or something different based on where you live.
Can someone explain it in simple terms and when you actually need one?
