I recently saw a charge related to excise tax and I’m a bit confused. Can someone explain what is federal excise tax and when it applies? Is it something consumers pay directly or is it usually included in the price of certain products or services?

It is a tax levied on particular items, goods, or services by the Internal Revenue Service not on income but instead on the goods, services, or activities. It is usually charged along with the cost of goods such as fuel, tobacco, airline tickets, and alcohol. The tax is useful in raising revenue to the government and it could also deter some consumption. In America, these taxes are normally collected and paid to the federal government by businesses.

A federal excise tax is a tax imposed by the U.S. government on specific goods, services, or activities, such as gasoline, alcohol, tobacco, or airline tickets. It is usually included in the price of the product and helps fund federal programs. Excise taxes are different from income or sales taxes.

Federal Excise Tax is a tax imposed by the U.S. federal government on specific goods, services, or activities rather than on income. It is commonly applied to items like gasoline, airline tickets, tobacco, and alcohol. The tax is usually included in the price of the product and paid by manufacturers, sellers, or consumers depending on the item.

An indirect tax such as federal excise tax is imposed on certain commodities such as fuel and tobacco and is usually paid by the producers or wholesalers.
