I’ve heard about identity theft in the news but don’t fully understand it. What is identity theft, and how does it usually happen? Also, what steps can someone take to protect themselves from it?

Identity theft is when someone steals your personal information, like your name, Aadhaar/PAN details, bank info, or passwords, and uses it without your permission, usually for fraud or financial gain; for example, opening accounts, making purchases, or taking loans in your name. It’s more common than people think, especially online, so basic precautions like not sharing OTPs and using strong passwords really help.

"Hey everyone, just wanted to chime in on this topic. Identity theft can be pretty sneaky, but there are some simple steps you can take to protect yourself. Always keep an eye on your credit report, use strong passwords, and be cautious when sharing personal info online. A little vigilance can go a long way in preventing ID theft."
