I'm trying to understand some basic financial and government-related terms, and I came across the word taxpayer. Can someone explain what exactly a taxpayer is? Does it refer to just individuals, or can companies also be taxpayers? I'd really appreciate a simple explanation. Thanks!

Everyone who is obliged by law to pay taxes to the government on their income, profits, or activities is considered to be a taxpayer, either an individual or a company.

Taxpayer: This is a person who is under the law obliged to pay taxes to the government. This may involve individual people (e.g. employees or self-employed individuals) or organizations (e.g. companies or businesses). Simply stated, you would be a taxpayer in the event that you receive income or have a taxable business.

Taxpayer is a person or an entity (such as a company) that is bound by law to receive taxes (e.g., income tax or property tax) to a government body.

A taxpayer is an individual, business, or organization responsible for paying taxes to the government based on income, property, or purchases. Taxes fund public services like education, healthcare, infrastructure, and defense. Taxpayers must file accurate returns and comply with laws to avoid penalties. They play a key role in supporting a nation’s economic and social development.
