Who is Senior Manager?

I often hear the term “Senior Manager” used in organizations, but I’m not sure what exactly the role includes. Is a Senior Manager simply a higher-level manager, or do they have specific responsibilities that set them apart? Also, how do they fit into the hierarchy compared to managers, directors, and executives?

A Senior Manager is someone who oversees a team or department, usually reporting to a director or VP. They’re responsible for big-picture stuff like setting goals, managing budgets, and guiding their team’s work while still being hands-on when needed. For example, at my last job, our Senior Manager led the marketing team, coordinated campaigns, and handled client escalations. It’s a role that blends leadership with getting into the nitty-gritty to keep things running smoothly. The exact duties can vary by company, though!

A Senior Manager is a boss who leads a team and makes important decisions. They have more experience and responsibility than regular managers.
