How to reject a job offer?

I recently received a job offer, but after considering the role, compensation, and long-term goals, I don’t think it's the right fit for me. I want to decline politely without burning bridges or sounding ungrateful.

For those who have done this before, what’s the best way to reject an offer professionally? Should it be done over email, phone call, or both? And are there any phrases or etiquette tips to follow so the company still keeps the door open for future opportunities?

You can politely refuse the job offer and explain your genuine reason for not joining their organization. You can email them; that would be enough.

Politely and professionally decline the offer in writing (email is fine). Thank the employer, clearly state your decision, and give a brief, positive reason (e.g., pursuing another opportunity). Be succinct and leave room for future interactions.

Politely thank the employer for the offer, express appreciation for their time, and clearly state that you are declining. Keep it professional and concise, avoiding negative comments. Maintain a positive tone to preserve future opportunities and relationships.
